(Taiyuan, Shanxi Province) Authorities administratively detained Feng Junjun, a Christian from Taiyuan Zion Reformed Church. Officers sent him to Taiyuan Detention Center for 15 days for his crime of attending a church service on April 3, 2022.
Previous church service
On April 3, 2022, police disrupted the Sunday worship at Taiyuan Zion Reformed Church. Police detained seven Christians, including Yao Congya (wife of preacher An Yankui), Guo Juan (wife of Zhang Chenghao), Wang Yingjie, Wang Ying, and another three believers, in the name of pandemic prevention. Preacher An Yankui and Zhang Chenghao had already been imprisoned at that time.
Sentenced 15 days
Police handcuffed the seven Christians and took them to holding cells. Two male Christians were handcuffed to ground anchors, and three female Christians were restrained in tiger chairs. All seven Christians refused to sign guarantees promising to “stop attending gatherings of Zion Reformed Church.” That evening, all of them including Feng Junjun were given 15 days of administrative detention and fined ¥500 yuan.
Postponed punishment
Due to a COVID lockdown in Taiyuan in 2022, the detention was postponed. Over the following two and a half years, six of the Christians have already served their detention periods. Xu Cuili from the church recently served her detention and was released on October 8. Feng Junjun was the last Christian in this case whose detention had not yet been executed until October 21.
Feng Junjun lifted up in prayer
Feng Junjun prepared himself for this detention. During the Sunday service on October 20, he worshipped with other believers and asked for their prayers. Taiyuan Zion Reformed Church issued a public prayer request for Feng.
“We pray for Feng’s safety in the detention center and ask God to help him witness the gospel and honor the Savior while inside the detention center. May the Lord be with Feng’s relatives and family, and may the Lord’s living salvation be painted in the hearts of Feng and all the brothers and sisters. Please pray for Feng Junjun and Taiyuan Zion Reformed Church.“
